THIS WEEKEND IN PHILADELPHIA We like to do things in Philadelphia. We like to do them and we like to go to them and we like to be an audience and we like to listen. This Friday, we will be doing t his , which is going to the TireFire reading series, curated and hosted by the lovely duo of Sarah Rose Etter & Annie Liontas. Friday, May 9th at 7pm  (which means, in special TireFire jive, most likely the reading will start at 8pm sharp) at Tattooed Moms (the first bar I ever drank at legally--) come out to see Roxane Gay (!!), Mike Young, Joseph Riippi, and Tara Murphy. I've read books by at least two of those people and plan to read a book by at least one of them this summer. RSVP here . Because of snow, the PSG gallery opening originally scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for this day! So it should be a blast! It's an art opening/music menagerie! I'm excited.

I am currently annoyed that I am awake, sitting in my room at the Red Roof Inn. If I would have known before I woke up that the radio was already pre-set to the Toldeo NPR, I would have had it on all night. Instead, I let a short iTunes mix sing me to sleep and then woke up at various occasions in a panic throughout the night. My curtain is drawn, but I'm sure it's raining. But let's back track a bit. I am AWP-bound currently, but last weekend I was in Boston. Gigantic Sequins had a 3.1 Celebration at Trident Books and Cafe on Thursday night. Four great writers whose fiction has been published in Gigantic Sequins read. I was pleased to meet Meg Cameron and Kelli Trapnell and also glad to make this celebration an opportunity to catch up with LaTanya McQueen and Olivia Kate Cerrone . Do you know what I love about my generation? How easy digital communication makes everything. I've been in touch with Veronica Liu, the woman who's set up Word Up , the pop-up bookstore in Washington Heights, NYC, since I found out about the pop-up store via Karen Lillis's wonderful "Small Press Librarian" blog , and she is not only sweet, but excited about what she's doing and what others are doing. She is the managing editor for Seven Stories Press, and as far as I can tell, she knows what she's doing. This is what makes being an editor so thrilling to me. She has been fast to respond to my emails, informative when need be and possesses a level of small excitement that can go undetected via email, but I can sense it. I arrived safely in DC yesterday, and spent the evening with the lovely and wonderful editors of Big Lucks , Mark and Laura. They have been kind and hospitable and a joy as hosts. After a lovely night sleeping on the couch and then waking up to some grisly news from Egypt, I was glad to distract myself from Al Jazeera English and go with them to the hotel where the conference will be held out to register and help them set up their table. The Big Lucks editors are gracefully allowing Gigantic Sequins a spot on their table, so I set up a few of our newest issues, with a small stack of the first two beneath it. I also have our Gigantic Sequins stickers, submission flyers, and flyers advertising the 2.1 issue there. The first one is at Robin’s Bookstore in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, May 26th from 7pm-9pm. Alice Notley, prominent poet from the 2nd generation of the New York School, will be reading at Rowan University on Monday, April 26th in the Rowan Art Gallery in Wesby Hall at 7pm.
