i can't really sing, so

I am doing another "year goal" this year, but I am not sure if I will meet it, as it is more books than I aimed for last year AND I haven't been reading as many books as usual. This is not for good reason: I am studying for the English Lit GREs and have been since the beginning of January. I take the test on April 20th, and after that I will be free to read as I please again. So, meanwhile, my accomplishments have been sparse in the reading department. I will share them with you below, though. Perhaps after the test, I will reinstate my previous method of entry with numbers and enthusiasm. When tallying my books for this month, because I read a number of shorter books, I counted four of them as half books. Luckily, two of each of the four were put out by the same publishing companies, so it felt "right" to count them together as half a book with another book by the same publishing company. I also found myself reading along a "theme", at first my accident and then on purpose. I read a good number of books of modern short stories by women. Part of this was because these books were what friends gave to me for my Birthday Club, which in itself is interesting. I am past my halfway mark as of the end of this month, and I think that's a good sign. HAPPENING Thursday 2/2/2012 Tire Fire Reading Series presents : Scott McClanahan, Kendra Grant Malone, Matthew Savoca & Kirsten Kaschock  |  Tattooed Mom 530 South Street  |  7pm-10pm  |  FREE I'm pretty psyched about this one. I am "into" collaborative writing recently, for some reason, and Malone and Savoca are, I believe, reading together from their collaborative work *. It has this feel to it, and it's usually subtly humorous in a way that you probably have to be when you are working with someone else, I suppose. It makes me jealous that I don't have a collaborative poet friend. But moving on, I went to a Tire Fire reading last year, and I met a lot of great people there and saw three great fiction writers read their work.
